The 2014 Eastern Conference Finals were hard fought, with Montreal pushing New York to 7 games. In contrast to the previous high scoring games, Game 7 was a defensive battle. The only goal of hte game came late in the 2nd period when Dominic Moore scored on a pass from Brian Boyle. The win propelled New York to their first Stanley Cup Finals in 20 years.

New York had fallen behind 2 – 3 to New Jersey in the Conference Finals, but Mark Messier delivered a hat trick in Game 6 to force Game 7 at home. With the Conference title on the line, the game went into double overtime tied at 1 apiece. Four minutes in Daniel Lacroix stole the puck and slotted it to Stephane Matteau, who was waiting in front of the net. Matteau hammered it home, and New York was on it’s way to the Stanley Cup Finals with the announcers ringing out “Matteau! Matteau!”

The 1994 New York team was one for the ages with greats like Sergei Zubov, Mark Messier, Adam Graves and Brian Leetch. En route to their 4th Stanley Cup, New York forced a Game 7 with Vancouver. The first goal came when Messier slotted it to Zubov who hit Leetch on the far side of the goal. Graves and Messier rounded the game out with two more goals, giving New York a 3-2 win and the Stanley Cup.
