The Maroons were Montreal’s English-speaking NHL team from 1924-1938. They shared the Montreal Forum with the Montreal Canadiens until 1938, and were a highly competitive team, winning the Stanley Cup in 1926 and 1935. The Great Depression hurt attendance numbers for both Montreal teams, but the Canadiens had more francophone supporters than the Maroons’ anglophone supporters, so it was the Maroons that had the worst attendance records in the league. They would cease play in 1938.
