Larry Bird is one of the most accomplished players to ever step onto the court, and is oft considered one of the greatest basketball players of all time. Bird played his entire 13-year professional career with the Boston Celtics, in which he redefined the small forward position with his clutch shooting ability and overall command of the court. During that time, Bird was voted into the All-Star game every season save for one, whilst also being named NBA MVP three consecutive years (1984-86), with two NBA Finals MVP awards as well (1984, 1986). During his career, he played alongside other Celtics greats on one of the league’s greatest forecourts, with Bird starting at either small forward or power forward with Kevin McHale at power forward and Robert Parish at center. This Hall of Fame trio led the Celtics to three NBA Championships, in 1981, 1984, and 1986, respectively. Bird’s extensive list of accolades also include but are not limited to: NBA Rookie of the Year (1980), NBA All-Star Game MVP (1982), 9x All-NBA First Team (1980-1988), 3x NBA All-Defensive Second Team (1982-1984), 3x NBA 3-Point Shootout Champion (1986-1988), and AP Athlete of the Year (1986). Bird twice entered the highly exclusive 50-40-90 Club, whereby a player must maintain a 50% fieldgoal, 40% three-pointer, 90% free-throw shooting percentage line over the course of an entire NBA season. This club is indicative of representing the best all-around shooters in the league, and only seven players have reached this milestone since the three-point shot was introduced to the NBA in the 1979-80 season – Stephen Curry, Kevin Durant, Mark Price, Reggie Miller, Steve Nash, Dirk Nowitzki, and Bird being those rarified members. Bird was later inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 1998. Not limiting himself to success only on the court, he was also a successful executive in the NBA, having been named an NBA All-Star Coach and Coach of the Year in 1998 and NBA Executive of the Year in 2012.
