France routed Brazil to become the sixth host country to win the World Cup. Zinedine Zidane was the man of the match, having two of the three goals in the shutout against Brazil. Zidane’s first goal came on a header from a Emmanuel Petit corner.

After a scoreless first half of the semi-final match, Croatia scored a quick goal in the 46th minute but Lilian Thuram answered back only a minute later to tie the game. Twelve minutes later Thuram scored the game winner with a dramatic run up the right side of the field.
