In an elimination game, Detroit called upon the arm of Justin Verlander who delivered big time for the team. Pitching a complete shutout, Verlander was dominant throughout the game and advanced Detroit to the ALCS where they would sweep the Yankees and win the AL pennant.
1984 World Series: Game 5

Detroit’s last World Series title came in 1984 on the back of Gibson’s 8th inning three-run homer that propelled Detroit to what eventually was an insurmountable lead against San Diego. The Tigers won the series 4-1, winning the final three games.
