Cassius Clay, who, after joining the Nation of Islam in 1964 changed his name to Muhammad Ali, is a famous American boxer, philanthropist, social activist, and all-round cultural icon. Ali, nicknamed “The Greatest,” is remembered for his numerous historic boxing matches, and for his pre-match hype, where he would “trash talk” opponents, often with rhymes.
This mixed media reproduction canvas (2′ x 4′ ) made by Toronto artist Mark Stoddart features boxing legend Muhammad Ali (nee Cassius Clay). The canvas is composed of articles and photos featured in Sport Magazine. This piece is part of the Mark Stoddart Collection “Voices of the Past”, which pays tribute to various black athletes throughout history.
The stories and images that appear on canvas are derived exclusively from the SPORT magazine archive.
